Alexa Routines are better than Google Assistant shortcuts

Hey Alexa, did you know you are better than Google at home automation?

Chances are, that you have an access to at least one personal assistant. Whether it’s a Google Assistant on your phone or Amazon Echo device – you have used the voice commands at least once.  Right now Alexa Routines beat Google Assistant Shortcuts as Routines are so much better than shortcuts.

Alexa’s routines vs Google Assistant’s shortcuts

If you are not familiar with neither  here is a short rundown:

Google Assistant shortcuts

Instead of speaking the same, often clunky command to do something on a regular basis, you can configure a shortcut. This spoken command will perform a certain command:

Say ‘sleep time’ to set an alarm for 7:15 am’

It saves you time while creating more familiar commands for the user. You can access this feature by activating Google Assistant and clicking on a drawer icon. In the Your Stuff tab, you will find an option to add your commands.

Alexa Routines

In the similar fashion, Alexa lets you create a custom voice command to perform a certain action or list of actions chained together:

say ‘sleep time’ to dim bedroom light and turn off your PC’

Note that unlike the shortcuts, you can execute multiple actions using a single command.  It’s great for voice controls that require you to control more devices even outside the single ecosystem.
