PIXEL launcher – how to enable Google Now

This is how to enable Google Now after you installed the Pixel launcher

New launcher has leaked,  you can try it yourself now! Whether you are a fan or not of the new branding the new launcher might be soon a default google launcher. If you wish to try it for yourself – have a look at this link:

The launcher and the wallpaper apk are available for download. Word of warning though  PIXEL launcher won’t work with Google Now by default. You will have to install it as a system app. In order to do this, a root access will be required.

New features include:

  • Google search bar is collapsible
  • Visible date widget
  • Swipe up to access app drawer
  • Uninstall apps directly  from the  home screen
  • New wallpaper options

How to enable Google Now in PIXEL launcher

  1. Download the launcher apk
  2. Have the root explorer app of your choice read
  3. Install the apk like a normal apk
  4. Go to /root/data/app and search for COM.GOOGLE.ANDROID.APPS.NEXUSLAUNCHER2
  5. Move the folder from this directory into root/system/app
  6. Access the properties of the apk (long press the icon)  and make sure the permissions are set
  7. Reboot your phone
  8. Go to Settings – Apps and set the PIXEL launcher as your home launcher.
  9. Enjoy!
